Trying Something New

Don't be afraid to try something new is easier said than done most of the time. A few years ago I put aside a fear I had for Nordic Skiing (cross country skiing) and got myself a skating setup and vowed to ski as a way to keep in shape for running. Well the year I got the skis was one of the worst years on the east coast for skiing as their was little to no snow to be found that year naturally on the ground.

Now I just got back from Christmas with my family in snowy Montana and we stayed at no other place than a nordic ski area. I packed my skis with a little trepidation and took off north. Each morning I went out and skied with my mother, boyfriend and even my whole family on Christmas. The first day I was a little hesitant to be on snow, my ankles wobbled and I felt out of balance (something I rarely feel). However after a couple days in a row of skiing my confidence boosted and I was able to have more and more fun each day and laughed along the way. Not only was I spending precious time with family but also conquering a new skill and building upon a weak foundation.  Now back in Utah I am already plotting out where I can ski around here and continue to get this fantastic exercise in during the winter months! Basically, don't be afraid to try something new for fear of not being good at it, you never know what can turn out to be very fun!
